New Year, New Currency: What to Know About Traveling in Bulgaria
Hi travel enthusiasts ๐
Happy New Year! ๐ We hope 2026 has started with exciting plans, unforgettable adventures, and plenty of travel inspiration.
As many of you are already dreaming about your next journey to Bulgaria or the Balkans, we wanted to share an important (and very practical) update that will make traveling in the region even easier.

๐ง๐ฌ Bulgaria Has Officially Adopted the Euro
Starting this year, Bulgaria has introduced the euro (โฌ) as its official currency, marking a big step for the country and for travelers visiting from abroad.
To make the change smooth, there is a transition period currently in place:
๐ถ Prices are displayed in both Bulgarian leva (BGN) and euros.
๐ณ You can pay using either leva or euros until the end of January.
๐ From February onward, only euros will be accepted.
For travelers, this change brings even more convenience: simpler payments, easier budgeting, and no need to exchange money if youโre already traveling within the Eurozone.
๐ We also have a helpful resource for all currencies used across the Balkans, what to expect in each country, and how to plan ahead.
๐ Planning a Trip to Bulgaria or the Balkans?
As always, our team is ready to help you plan smooth, lovely journeys across Bulgaria and the Balkans, whether itโs your first visit or a return to places you love.
Hereโs to a year full of memorable travels, local experiences, and new discoveries.
Happy New Year once again, and we hope to see you on the road soon!
Letโs travel together!
